ECOVE Builds Occupational Safety Workplace

In recent years, ECOVE has won awards such as National Occupational Health and Safety Award-Enterprise Standard Award as well as the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Badge of Authentication Healthy Workplace, and so on. Meanwhile, eight colleagues in charge of promoting occupational safety and health have been selected as excellent Occupational Health and Safety employees by the Ministry of Labor. In this way, ECOVE has become a model enterprise for Taiwan's safety and health workplaces.

Occupational Safety Transfer from Top to Down

“Go happily to work, and safely return home;”
"One more helmet, one more protective cover;"
"Doing safety work is better than burning incense and praying" . . .

Upon entering each Energy-from-Waste(EfW) plant operated by ECOVE, a guest is impressed by its “Best Safety” bulletin board with numerous messages. ECOVE posts personal safety management experiences and impressions on the bulletin board; They are easy to understand, and easy to remember. Fostering a tacit understanding for safety between colleagues and transferring the concepts of industrial safety, this has become the pride of all of ECOVE's colleagues.
 

Since 2017, ECOVE has arranged a "Safety Moment" before the start of important meetings. These announcements cite examples of recent industrial safety incidents as well as news events to encourage reflection and remind everyone of the correct safety concepts and risk prevention. This encourages colleagues to internalize these moments and motivate them to build a safety culture in the Company.

One example is "pointing and calling," a safety confirmation practice originating from Japanese railway operations. Employees of ECOVE had learned this from Safety Moment events and introduced it into daily rotating equipment maintenance isolation, waste dumping, vehicle driving, and so on. It has generated a positive effect through visually seeing objects, pointing them out, and calling out to confirm operations in order to reduce accidents caused by human error.

All employees participate in industrial safety decision-making process

Establishing a safety culture emphasizes comprehensive participation, and ECOVE encourages employees to participate in industrial safety decision-making process and flaw improvement process. Comprising both employers and employees, the Occupational Safety and Health Committee has set up six occupational safety and health performance indicators according to the needs of on-site safety and health management. These indicators are tracked continuously to ensure industrial safety.

Implementing ISO 45001 and connect with the globe

In recent years, ECOVE has actively expanded its overseas resource recycling business, promoting its internal management system with international standards. ECOVE completed inspection work of the international occupational safety and health management system certification renewal (ISO 45001:2018) in 2018. In doing so, it drew on examples of industrial safety, continuously correcting operating standards and introducing international standards. This demonstrates that the Company's management performance in the field of occupational safety and health has become aligned with international standards.

Implementing Industrial Safety Training and Rewarding Proposals

ECOVE reviews its education and training program every year. Arranged by the operation and maintenance departments, the professional training courses are set up in accordance with job attributes. The courses aim to promote employee education and training comprehensively while confirming the safety knowledge and skills of colleagues. 

In addition, ECOVE has also established a safety incentive system to inspire employees to actively join in industrial safety improvement. Every year, personnel with outstanding industrial safety performance are announced with special industrial safety bonus as encouragement.

Three-level Audits and Challenges in Inspection

ECOVE ncontinuously improves the performance of industrial safety, and continues working toward the goal of zero disasters and zero accidents. ECOVE promotes the three-level audit management system internally. The first-level, safety and health management audit, is performed by on-site engineers. Subsequently, safety and health personnel and an on-site manager perform the second-level safety and health audit. Finally, the Company performs the third-level safety and health supervision and audit for strict implementation of safety management.

Becoming a Standard Enterprise for Industrial Safety

ECOVE believes that achieving positive occupational safety and health performance is fundamental to the sustainable operation of an enterprise. It maintains the strict internal implementation of safety controls and audits, and its performance is widely recognized by the competent authorities. Taking the example of ECOVE won the highest honor for Taiwanese industrial safety performance in 2016: the National Occupational Safety and Health Award/Enterprise Standard Award. ECOVE is the "most reliable" sustainable resource cycle industry member. We regard safety culture as the most important core value, and internalize "Industrial Safety is the First Priority" into management and operation standards. In the future, ECOVE will continue to promote various occupational safety measures, insist on “There is no compromise in work safety," and create an excellent work environment. In doing so, ECOVE aims to become the standard enterprise for Taiwan's occupational safety and health, and continue to achieve an excellent industrial safety performance.
