ECOVE’s Biodiversity Short Film “Every Wing Counts, A Lifetime in Purple” Now Streaming —Showcasing Achievements in Purple Crow Butterfly Conservation

Committed to environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation, ECOVE actively advance initiatives that support nature-positive development. As part of its Purple Crow Butterfly Conservation Initiative, ECOVE has released a short film documenting its conservation efforts. The public is invited to learn more by watching  “Every Wing Counts,  A Lifetime in Purple” 

The purple crow butterfly is a tropical butterfly species and one of the few butterfly species in the world known for large-scale migration. Each year, its seasonal migration from northern to southern Taiwan creates the renowned “Purple Butterfly Valley,” one of the world's most remarkable natural. Several of ECOVE’s Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facilities across Taiwan overlap with key migration routes of the purple crow butterfly. Among them, the Zhunan Wetland adjacent to the Miaoli Energy and Resource Center serves as the largest breeding habitat for the Double-branded Black Crow (Euploea sylvester). In response, ECOVE launched a three-year biodiversity action plan in 2024, focusing on the purple crow butterfly as a flagship species for biodiversity conservation.

The film documents ECOVE’s efforts across multiple energy and resource centers to protect the purple crow butterfly, including habitat conservation, ecological surveys, butterfly mark-and-release activities, nectar plant restoration and habitat enhancement, and environmental education initiatives. Through butterfly mark-and-release activities, ECOVE has supported the Taiwan Purple Crow Butterfly Conservation Association in collecting valuable research data. The knowledge generated through these conservation efforts has also been incorporated into environmental education materials, serving as resources to promote long-term sustainability awareness.

Over the course of the three-year initiative, the program has achieved significant results. In 2024, ECOVE raised employee awareness of the purple crow butterfly and biodiversity issues through lectures, poster exhibitions, the “ESG x AI Moment” knowledge-sharing sessions held before meetings, a dedicated section on the official website, and creative merchandise featuring the purple crow butterfly. In 2025, ECOVE further collaborated with the Taiwan Purple Crow Butterfly Conservation Association to promote ecological surveys, purple crow butterfly mark-and-release activities, the cultivation of butterfly-friendly nectar plants, and seed instructor training programs. In 2026, ECOVE expanded its conservation efforts through a biodiversity-themed short film and the “Hailong Protection Forest Purple Crow Butterfly Conservation Pioneer Action Program,” further extending and enhancing the outcomes of its biodiversity conservation initiatives.

Looking ahead, ECOVE will continue to work alongside stakeholders to deepen its commitment to habitat restoration and environmental education initiatives. By making purple crow butterfly conservation a long-term sustainability action, ECOVE demonstrates its enduring commitment to leveraging its core business expertise to contribute to nature conservation.
